Tells of the experiences of missionaries\u00a0of the Sudan Interior Mission\u00a0during the Italo-Ethiopian war,\u00a0and is a record of miraculous protection\u00a0and provision. When war\u00a0broke out the Society had fifteen\u00a0stations staffed by seventy-five missionaries,\u00a0and they all refused to\u00a0abandon the people in their hour of\u00a0need.<\/p>\n

They offered submission and\u00a0their services to the new Government,\u00a0hoping that they would be able to\u00a0continue under the Italian flag, but\u00a0disillusionment soon followed, and\u00a0events made it impossible for the\u00a0missionaries to continue to respect\u00a0the Italian Government. Italy is\u00a0now squeezing out the last of the\u00a0missionaries. The closing chapter\u00a0contains moving stories of the native\u00a0converts left to carry on a Christian\u00a0witness whilst the missionaries seek\u00a0other spheres of labour on the outskirts\u00a0of Ethiopia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Foreword<\/h3>\n

    The greater part of this book tells of the experiences\u00a0of our missionaries during the ltalo-Ethiopian war, and\u00a0is a record of miraculous protection and provision.<\/p>\n

    As we write these lines, Italy is squeezing out the last\u00a0of our missionaries from Ethiopia, and we should be\u00a0unfaithful if we did not give testimony as ministers of\u00a0righteousness as well as of the Gospel.<\/p>\n

    During the seven years that our Mission was operating\u00a0under the regime of Ras Tafari as Regent, and later\u00a0as the Emperor Haile Selassie, we had every reason to\u00a0believe that he was sympathetic to all efforts made for\u00a0the social and spiritual enlightenment of his people. When\u00a0the Mission proposed to establish a Leprosarium, His\u00a0Majesty not only gave a beautiful site of five hundred\u00a0acres just outside the capital, but contributed a substantial\u00a0sum of money, laid the foundation stone, and\u00a0was present later at the official opening.
