According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/missiology.org.uk\/pdf\/calcutta-christian-observer\/calcutta-christian-observer_001-1832.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first issue<\/a> its purpose was to publish articles on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Theoretical and Practical Theology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biblical Criticism and Translation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The origin, progress, and future prospects of Christian Missions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other miscellaneous subjects of interest to the Indian community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reviews and notices of works of religion and general literature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local intelligence relating to Christian work, detailing both its successes and failures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Material from a variety of denominational perspectives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The contents of this journal will prove a treasure trove to those studying the history of Christian missions, particularly in India. I am grateful for the loan of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol-baptist.ac.uk\/\">Bristol Baptist College<\/a>&#8216;s archive of this journal, which dates from the very first issue up top about half-way through its run. That set has never before been read (the pages were uncut) and was in superb condition for its age. As far as I am aware, this is the most complete physical set in the UK, comprising of 124 issues. To this I have added 58 issues from archive.org. The latter required reprocessing and editing to remove errors as some of the scans were of poor quality. The resulting collection of 182 issues is, as far as I am aware, the most complete anywhere online. If anyone has access to print copies of any of the missing issues do let me know.
